IZ to launch Sustainable Livestock Research Center in 2022

The Institute of Animal Science (IZ-APTA) plans to complete its first Sustainable Livestock Research Center this year to consolidate cattle production in accordance with Brazil’s climatic conditions.
The unit of the Secretary of Agriculture and Supply of São Paulo State will be located in São José do Rio Preto (SP). The goal is also to present measurements and connect all the links in the sector.
“We are currently working on production sustainability in the sector, but this Research Center will coordinate research and connect all chains”, emphasizes Renata Branco, director of the Strategic Management Department at APTA and researcher at IZ.
Renata says there are specific projects, but the connection is necessary, to establish a complete sustainable cycle for beef chain.
“We will be able to mitigate methane emission in all phases of the production cycle”. According to Renata, the expectation is that the new center will help the State of São Paulo to collaborate with the state plan for climate neutrality.
IZ Farm
São José do Rio Preto is ideal for the new Center, because IZ has a medium-sized farm there. IZ Farm has easy access and is already operating for scientific researches. However, from now on, the unit will have a unique identity.
“We will have a single objective there, which will facilitate technology developing to the entire production chain”, highlights Renata.
The project aims to show to ranchers, for example, how to make their cattle more efficient, how to manage pasture better and which diets have increased results.
He will also have access to new products and processes developed. It will be a model farm for the dissemination of information and technologies with public-private partnerships through technical training within the farm.
