JBS and Banco do Brasil joint for environmental regularization

JBS, global leader in protein-based foods, has firmed a partnership with Banco do Brasil to facilitate access to rural credit for producers through its supply chain.

With the support of JBS’s “Green Offices” (Escritórios Verdes, in Portuguese), ranchers will be able to obtain resources to finance environmental regularization actions, contributing to an increasingly sustainable production chain.

The partnership aims to connect these producers to BB, leader in rural credit, which maintains a large tradition promoting agribusiness economic development.

The Green Offices, pioneer initiative from JBS to support its suppliers, will assess producer projects who seek funding in order to adopt good environmental practices.

BB will assist them on project developing and proper credit line assignment for each situation. In this way, JBS and Banco do Brasil show alignment on integrated management, expanding operation to encourage producers to formalize their properties.

The joint action adds value to the agribusiness sector, as it provides conditions for environmental accountability.

“This is another JBS´s effort towards a sustainable supply chain. We aim to help ranchers solve their environmental liabilities in accordance with Brazilian legislation. That’s what we’re looking for with the Green Offices. The partnership with Banco do Brasil will reinforce this process”, comments Renato Costa, president at Friboi.

Elected for the second consecutive year the most sustainable bank in the world by the Global 100 ranking, in 2021, Banco do Brasil launched 10 Sustainability Commitments, with goals for a more sustainable world. Among them, the promotion of Sustainable Agriculture, aiming to finance R$ 125 billion by 2025. Currently, BB already has allocated more than R$ 121.5 billion.

Green Offices

In order to help ranchers throughout Brazil meet their socio-environmental standards, JBS has 15 Green Offices in different key regions in Brazil. The service offers free support to producers who have environmental restrictions, aiming environmental regularization of their properties.

The Green Offices offer specialized professionals who have access to necessary tools to diagnose and solve problems, in addition to a network of qualified consultants to assist rancher on those processes.
